Practical Tips in Growing and Sustaining a Business

During my childhood years, my late parents made some attempts to go into business.

Those attempts proved to be short-lived.

I was young then and I just observed what went on. Now, I look back and I saw a different light in some of the business decisions that my parents made.

I think that perhaps those business attempts would have thrived longer and earned better profits if my parents had considered the following:

Directly manage the business or hire a good manager. My parents at one point owned a beauty salon but they were too busy with their own separate careers. They also did not hire an experienced manager. This business eventually folded up. I think focus and passion are key things in growing and sustaining any business.

Knowledge of the market. At one time, my parents also went into newspaper publishing with some of their friends. The main challenge here is that they did this in our city where there were already two entrenched newspaper companies that time. I think that given their combined talents and skills the newspaper would have stayed on if they did a little bit more research and data gathering about the market and even about their competition. Doing this could have perhaps helped them in bringing out the edge of their paper. Data gathering or possessing information as some would say is power. Data gathering, and better data management would help a lot in improving one’s business. You can read more about data management tools on this page.

Failures and loss are sometimes part of the package. Perhaps it had to do with my father being a lawyer who always did his best to win every case he handled. Failure or loss is something he never wanted to face. But just listening to or reading the stories of successful business people and their businesses would show that they even faced several losses or failures in the beginning before they reached their breakthrough. What I remember is that my parents preferred to end a business venture when business challenges begin to appear.

Ask sound business advice from other successful business people. My late parents, it seemed to me, did not cultivate friendships with other business people who could have given them business tips, advice. I think we succeed when we listen and learn from others. Getting a mentor in business is also a key in unlocking the door of business success.

My late parents were satisfied with their own careers and were successful in them. I just think that they would have fared better, too, in doing business with just a few tweaks in their approach.

Finding Pharmacy Discount Cards That Really Work

Most pharmacies in the world today including the US, no longer limit themselves to just selling medicines.

They have also gone on to sell cosmetics or beauty products and even groceries. This is not a bad thing, really. This spells convenience for their patrons and if I may so, especially for us women. We can do our shopping for our beauty needs, groceries and that much-needed medicine or vitamin for us or for our loved one – all in one go.

This diversification of what pharmacies now sell to us can also save us on fuel or fare costs. So, we could say then that this means convenience and savings. This is the kind of pharmacy I would go for, along with being open for 24 hours, having a helpful and efficient staff and selling quality and affordable medicines.

Speaking of affordable medicines, it will also be much appreciated if a pharmacy honors discount cards like that of dulera discount card. This would be truly helpful as medications (including that for asthma) can be costly.

Our savings can then go to other things we also need to purchase right there in the pharmacy such as that new lotion or even that food item available in their grocery section.

Now, we must take note here that some discount cards may unfortunately not work. Or if they work, the price cut might turn out to be less than what other discount cards offer. So how do we ensure that we are holding the right discount card? I could think of 3 things.

Do some research. Know more about this discount card. Compare it with other discount cards. What sets it apart? Is it more cost-efficient than the others? This can easily be done online.

Read reviews. What are the experiences of others like in using this discount card? Did it work for them? If it did not, why so? Would they even recommend this? Reviews can be found online as well.

Just try it. Well, sometimes we just need to do the trial and error ourselves 😊 This is especially true if there are no reviews or comments about it yet. We just have to try it and perhaps “pioneer” putting our own review out there so that we can also help others seeking reviews or information about it.

Go ahead then. Don’t shy away from using discount cards the next time you drop by the pharmacy. And when you find that discount card that works, use it well.

Keeping Customers and Bringing in New Ones

Starting a business is an exciting thing. It is born out of passion or a dream which may have taken some time to begin as one prepares resources to build it.

Some research or survey may have been done first to ensure how viable the business is. After all, profit is also expected when one goes into business.

Now, it does not always follow that quality goods or services would equal to profit. One needs to remember that it is people who will avail of the goods or services that a business provides. If no one comes to patronize those services or goods, there is really no profit to talk about. So how do we ensure then our customers keep coming, and that we also continue to get new ones?

Customer is King. Quality services and goods do matter. But we must not forget that certain group of people in the equation – the customer or client who patronizes those services or products.

Unfortunately, some business owners seem to forget the key role of their customers as time goes on. Some even disregard customer feedback, even if it is obvious that such a feedback will help improve the business.

If you own a business or about to open one, I think you will agree with me that you desire its longevity. And for that to happen we need to care about our customers.

Journey with Customers. I think we need to have the perspective that we will be dealing with customers on a long-term basis. It’s not a one-shot deal. Our aim is to build a relationship with them, understand what their needs or goals are in relation to our products or services that they use. And so, we care about what they truly need. In other words, we give importance to customer onboarding. And this is meant to start even before they start paying for our goods or services.

Define What Success Looks Like. What do you mean when you say you want a successful business? How would you define customer success? Would you agree with what Lincoln Murphy said: “Customer Success is when your customers achieve their Desired Outcome through their interactions with your company”. When we don’t take time to define what success in our business looks like or what customer success is to us, how would we know then that our business is a success? Surely, we do not define success in terms of profit only.

Learn from Others. There are so many resources that one can access now to help grow one’s business. If you do not have a strong business background, you can learn from others, even collaborate with them. If you face the challenge of customer adoption, retention or expansion, you do not have to do this alone. Consider seeking help from others who have gone ahead of you in their business journey. Learn from them, consider being mentored. And when you have gone ahead in your own business journey, take time to also help and even mentor others.

Perhaps this year is a year of change for you in your business. Or perhaps you are just about to embark on something new, a new business endeavor. Wishing you all the best in your undertakings this year!
